Recent History

In the 19th century, the Ottoman ruler rebuilt and improved the city, turning it into a bustling hub for travelers en route to Jerusalem and for trade. This included the famous Jaffa oranges, exported to France on ships. These ships returned with materials for new construction, such as red roofs, which became a common sight in the city. Today, the market is bustling with merchants, travelers, and locals seeking second-hand goods.
